Our old homie, I Build Collapsible Mountains, has a new album (“The Spectator and the Act”) that was released today on Burning Building Recordings. You can stream and purchase the entire record on Bandcamp. You won’t regret it, and if you do, you suck at life.

I Build Collapsible Mountains- Rails

Our love for Scottish musicians is well-documented on this site, and I have a feeling this guy is going to be no exception. I Build Collapsible Mountains is also known as the solo project of Luke G Joyce, a Scottish dude who signed to Seattle’s Burning Building Recordings and will release his LP, The Spectator and The Act, on October 11th! Head to his bandcamp to hear more from his EP, released earlier in 2011, or listen to a new track from the upcoming album here

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

MXPX BASHING AWAY IN STUDIO FOR NINTH ALBUM

Record Due Out Later This Year

Los Angeles, CA, July 7, 2011 – Punk rock stalwarts, MxPx, are currently in the studio laying down tracks for their forthcoming ninth full-length album. The Washington trio of Mike Herrera [vocals, bass], Tom Wisniewski [guitars], and Yuri Ruley [drums] stand set to transform pop-punk once again with the new effort, due out later this year.

Fans can check out an exclusive behind-the-scenes video of the recording process on www.mxpx.com now!

The yet to be named album is the formal follow-up to 2007’s Secret Weapon (Tooth & Nail Records), and it’s something of a triumphant return to form for the band. Self-produced by Herrera at his Monkey Trench Studios in Bremerton, WA, the new material channels the fire and fervor of their classic album Life In General as well as Weapon’s scope and sense of refinement for a combustible new combination. Despite retiring from the band in 2010, Ruley returned to the fold, and he’s finished tracking drums already. The band remains in the midst of wrapping up guitars, bass, and vocals now.

After writing over 20 songs for the offering, MxPx are in the process of whittling down the selection to 12-14. Herrera is self-producing the album and said, “I’ve put an immense amount of thought into the bass lines this time around. I’ve expanded the fills and changed them up here and there, which has been fun.” They demoed a few songs during the Left Coast Punk EP recording sessions, and the time between albums has allowed them to evolve and change. Adhering to their own schedule, each and every detail is being perfected for the best MxPx album yet.

Since the release of Secret Weapon, MxPx dropped a covers album On The Covers II (Tooth & Nail Records) in 2009 and Left Coast Punk EP in 2009 and a holiday album entitled Punk Rock Christmas both through their label, Rock City Recording Company. However, everything simply served as a prelude to the new album.

MxPx are roaring back to life. Stay tuned for more from the studio…

END SOUNDS NEWEST SIGNING J. CHARLES & THE TRAINROBBERS HIT THE STUDIO TO RECORD THEIR DEBUT ALBUM

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

END SOUNDS NEWEST SIGNING J. CHARLES & THE TRAINROBBERS HIT THE STUDIO TO RECORD THEIR DEBUT ALBUM

Los Angeles, CA, June 9, 2011 – Austin, TX indie label, End Sounds has announced their newest signing to their diverse roster, J. Charles & The Trainrobbers. The Dallas, TX-based band have entered The Echo Lab recording studio with producer Matt Pence (Centro-Matic, Midlake) to record their debut album, Upon Leaving, which will be released in Fall 2011.

“After watching a two-song live video stream of J. Charles & The Trainrobbers, I found myself watching the recording over and over, and after 45 minutes of repeat, I knew then what I know now…that End Sounds and J. Charles & The Trainrobbers’ were destined to be together,” said End Sounds co-founder, Jonathan Gill.

At the intersection where cowboy boots meet Converse, where twang ties into tough-minded rock riffs, and country collides with the power of punk, you’ll find J. Charles & The Trainrobbers. The Dallas-based band’s insistent, urgent sound thrives within the continuum of true American originals that includes everyone from Black Flag to Billy Joe Shaver, Tom Waits to Willie Nelson. The band started in early 2010, when J. Charles Saenz, former front man for recently disbanded Southern rockers Sangre Sangre, as well as ex-lead guitarist for punk rockers the Strays and Death on Wednesday, decided to make a long and permanent drive from Los Angeles to the great state of Texas.  Armed with a batch full of new songs, Saenz teamed up with longtime friend, drummer Steven Visneau (The Queers, Slowride).  Something special started happening right off the bat, and from there it was a matter of putting the pieces together, adding in Omar Yee Foon (The Mag Seven) on bass and pedal steel guitarist Danny Crelin (Eleven Hundred Springs), forming J. Charles & the Trainrobbers.

The band will be in the studio through mid-July and will performing in and around Texas before mounting on a major tour in 2012.  Having already gigged alongside an impressive array of artists including Lucero, Deer Tick, Dawes, Middle Brother, and Shovels and Rope, J. Charles & The Trainrobbers are eager to spread their music as far and wide as possible.

About End Sounds
An Austin, TX-based record label founded in 2001, is turning ten years old this year.  In an age of declining record sales the label has weathered the storm and surprisingly is growing in the current climate.  This is likely due to the label’s focus on quality releases over quantity and a careful selection of a diverse roster with roots in punk ethos.

U.K. BAND SPRING OFFENSIVE ANNOUNCE THE U.S. RELEASE OF THEIR ALBUM, “PULL US APART” THROUGH THEIR NEW LABEL, BURNING BUILDING RECORDINGS TO BE RELEASED ON JUNE 21

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

U.K. BAND SPRING OFFENSIVE ANNOUNCE THE U.S. RELEASE OF THEIR ALBUM, PULL US APART THROUGH THEIR NEW LABEL, BURNING BUILDING RECORDINGS

Album To Be Released Within the U.S. on June 21

Los Angeles, CA, May 12, 2011 – Seattle Indie label, Burning Building Recordings recently signed an album deal with indie Oxford, England quintet, Spring Offensive and will be re-distributing their album, Pull Us Apart in the U.S. on June 21 with the addition of one exclusive bonus track.

Spring Offensive are an exciting young band from Oxford, England, the home of internationally acclaimed acts such as Radiohead, Supergrass and Foals. From this small university town, they’ve established themselves firmly on the national scene with their endless touring schedule and high intensity live shows. And now, with the help of Burning Building Recordings, the band is ready to leap across the Atlantic to the USA to share their distinctive sound to the masses.

Burning Building is exactly the kind of record label that we want to be releasing our music; their ethos and their roster is perfectly suited to us. ‘Pull Us Apart’ was the first thing we really did as a band, so it’s a great place for people to discover us,” says lead vocalist Lucas Whitworth. “We’re pretty stoked, to be honest. We’re excited about what we can achieve together. Hopefully we can make disgusting amounts of money, and retire to a small island in the Pacific. That last part was not entirely serious.”

Combining math and post-rock with layers of vocal harmonies and pounding rhythms, their sound is unique and dynamic, though influenced by many U.S. bands, including Death Cab For Cutie, The National, Low and Brand New.  Pull Us Apart features all 7 original tracks featured on the original U.K. self-release, with the addition of “The First Of Many Dreams About Monsters”, a 14-minute concept track (inspired by Dr. Elisabeth Kubler-Ross’ theory of the Grief Cycle), perfectly displaying the band’s haunting vocals and intricate guitar work coupled by pure passion and intensive storytelling. The lyrics of each song take you on a journey, a story that one must follow closely to completely comprehend. Each song builds and captures the listener, eager to follow each track into the next. This Is Fake DIY calls their music “Dripping in beauty,” while Artrocker compliments each track as “Dark, edgy and downright alluring.”

The band’s gift of storytelling is evident on their already critically acclaimed first single, “Every Coin”, written from the perspective of a man literally forced to eat the entire contents of his wallet. Check out their visual interpretation at: http://bit.ly/mQctzn. “Slow Division” is written from the viewpoint of a shipwrecked man writing his last ever message, while “Abacus Rex” is loosely based on Alan Turing, a mathematician going senile over his work.

The band’s dark tales are easily translated with their intense live set. While touring the UK, Spring Offensive has built a loyal and passionate fan base. The BBC described the band’s music as “heartfelt, direct, emotional and gorgeous” while Time Out exclaimed they were “bewitching.” They’ve played festivals and shared stages with renowned U.K. and European acts such as Frank Turner, Jeniferever and The Go! Team.

Burning Building Recordings is the perfect home for Spring Offensive, giving them the personal hands on support they will need to break within the U.S.. Pull Us Apart will be the Seattle-based label’s 17th release, second non-Northwest. Throughout their 7 years as an established Northwest indie label, they have worked with The Lonely Forest (now on Trans/Atlantic Records), Daniel G. Harmann & the Trouble Starts, Post Harbor, Speaker Speaker, and more.

The album was recorded and mixed by Ian Davenport at Courtyard Studios, mastered by Tim at Turan Audio and is currently available digitally in the U.K.. The U.S. version will include one extra track, new artwork and will be available to indie shops and most digital retail outlets such as iTunes and Amazon.com.

Spring Offensive is Lucas Whitworth (lead vocals), Matt Cooper (guitar and vocals), Theo Whitworth, (guitar and vocals), Joe Charlett (bass), and Pelham Groom (drums and vocals).

Pull Us Apart Track Listing:
1. I Found Myself Smiling
2. Abacus Rex
3. Every Coin
4. The Cable Routine
5. Everything Other Than This
6. Slow Division
